Creating deals
Open an opportunity, put it in the right stage, and keep its value and close date honest.
Creating deals#
A deal is one opportunity: a specific piece of work, with a value, moving through the stages of a pipeline. Deals are what the Kanban board shows and what the dashboard reports on.
Create a deal#
- Open Deals from the sidebar.
- Select New deal.
- Enter a short Title.
- Choose the Primary contact — required.
- Set the Value and currency.
- Adjust the Pipeline and Stage if the defaults are not right.
- Select Save.
Faster: from the record you already have open#
Both shortcuts fill in what the page already knows, so there is nothing to re-pick:
- From a company profile — open the Deals tab and select Create deal. The company is set for you; you still choose the person.
- From a contact profile — open the Deals tab and select Create deal. Both the contact and their company are set for you.
What each field is for#
Title — short enough to read on a board card. "Packaging redesign", not a sentence.
Primary contact — required. The deal inherits this person's company automatically. If you set a company first, the contact list narrows to that company.
Value and currency — the currency list is the set an administrator has activated in Settings → Currencies. Enter digits only; the field formats them for you.
Pipeline and Stage — a new deal starts in the first stage of the default pipeline. If your workspace has several pipelines, choose before saving: moving a deal between pipelines later is possible but resets its stage.
Expected close date — the date you believe it lands, not a deadline you hope for. Forecasts are only as good as this field.
Source — where the opportunity came from. Consistent values here are what make "which channel actually works" answerable.
Owner — who is responsible. Defaults to you. Administrators can assign it to someone else.
Won, lost, and what happens after#
Moving a deal into a stage marked Won or Lost closes it. Closed deals stay in the CRM and in reporting — they are history, not clutter. Reopening is just moving it back to an open stage.
Common mistakes#
A value of zero on a real opportunity. It is invisible in every forecast. If you do not know the number yet, estimate and correct it later.
Close dates that never move. A date three months in the past is worse than no date: it makes the whole pipeline look stale and trains people to ignore the column.
Deals used as tasks. "Send the proposal" is an activity on a deal, not a deal. Log it as an activity so it shows up on the calendar.
A contact from a different company. If the primary contact belongs to another company, Nazzam.ai rejects the deal rather than storing a link that contradicts itself. Fix the contact's company, or pick the right person.
